Irish on both sides of her family (O’Sullivan from Kerry and Sheridan from Longford), Jackie has fond memories of her first trip to Ireland at age 2; the scent of burning peat! Solving the mystery of her family roots, both in Kerry and Longford, Jackie has made some amazing discoveries along the way, including learning of relations with a very famous Irish Australian Actor!
She has been to Ireland more than 12 times, and continue to return regularly for research. Online research and more research on the ground (in Ireland and at the Library of Congress) has solved some of the puzzle, including discovery of local relatives in the Washington DC metro area, and even a professor at Georgetown University! Despite her new (married) German name, Joanne is an Irish lass through-and-through, descending from the Fitzpatrick clan of County Cork (or so the story goes).
Her dad, Joseph Patrick, had the undeniable dark hair, piercing blue eyes, impish smile and quick wit of the Black Irish, but it was quite a struggle to find his immigrant ancestor.
